Meet our church leaders!
Dr. David Lowrie Jr. has more than thirty-four years of pastoral experience, having served churches in the Dallas area, Wisconsin, Canyon and most recently El Paso. He is the past President of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and is serving his second term on the Board of Trustees at Howard Payne University. He holds a B.A. from Baylor University, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Divinity from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. David is an avid runner and marathoner, enjoys playing golf, and reading a wide variety of literature on study dates with his wife of 34 years, Robyn.
In addition to an active ministry partnership with David, including counseling and teaching Discipleship classes, Robyn is a university educator in English, ESL and Applied French language. David and Robyn's family includes four daughters, Kalie, Lorin, Jamie and Madison, two sons-in-law Dr. Phillip Scott and Jordan Villanueva, and two grandchildren, George Walker and Margot Rose.
Mike has over 30 years of business and ministry experience recently serving as Executive Pastor at Alliance Church in Lubbock. Mike is married to Debbie, his high school sweetheart, and has a degree from Texas Tech in Petroleum Engineering and a MA degree in Education and Administration from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Mike and Debbie have lived, worked and served all over the United States as well as three international locations in Africa and Europe. Mike and Debbie are the proud parents of three children and six grandchildren.
Gerre was born in Lubbock, Texas and grew up on a cotton farm in Lorenzo, Texas. Gerre holds a degree from Texas Tech and Southwestern Seminary. He has served as minister of music/administration for over forty years in church including Lorenzo, Texas City, Cleburne, Wichita Falls, Stephenville, Abilene and Decatur. He is in his 6th year as our Pastor to Senior Adults and leads our choir in worship. Gerre and his wife, Jo, have two children, Julie and Matt, and four grandchildren.
Ryan grew up in Decatur and started learning music while in high school. It is there Ryan met his high school sweetheart, Amy. After making his public profession of faith in Jesus Christ he was baptized in an old country church outside of Alvord. While becoming active in local church music Ryan and Amy married in 2001 and have made their home in Decatur. They have been blessed with three wonderful children; their son Ben, two daughters Gracie and Peyton Faith.
Ryan has led worship at Bethel Baptist in Alvord, Cornerstone Baptist in Decatur and is now serving as interim worship leader here at First Baptist. Ryan leads our worship team and congregation to bring a blend of traditional gospel hymns with relevant and meaningful contemporary worship. Ryan works alongside Bro. Gerre Joiner who leads the First Baptist choir. Ryan is also currently serving as our Worship & Fine Arts Academy administrator.
Candy Burden grew up in Oklahoma as the daughter of a Southern Baptist minister. She graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1992. She has a passion for teaching the love of Jesus to kids of all ages from all different backgrounds. The strength of the Children’s Ministry at FBCD lies in the intentional discipleship focused on creating leaders out of kids.
Candy joined the staff at FBCD in 2006 and has over 25 years of experience working with children and youth. Her husband John, a corporate pilot for XTO/Exxon, is her partner in ministry serving the church as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and Kidz Church leader.
John and Candy have three children, Racey, Rylie and Ridge.
Miranda has been working in various positions in preschool ministry for 15 years strong and has a strong conviction to teach kids biblical truth and the importance of memorizing scripture.
Previous to joining the FBCD staff Miranda served as the Children’s Director in Azle. She joined FBCD staff in 2012. She is the Mother’s Day Out Director. Miranda has a love for all children. Coming from a diverse background she has a passion for non-churched families and community outreach. She co-directs the Preschool program. John, Miranda’s husband, owns a window and glass business and is a Sunday School teacher. John and Miranda have 4 children: Brandon, Samantha, Benjamin and Brayden.
